The tribrach-style base incorporates retractable casters to allow the stand to be relocated easily across the shop floor. Caster deployment and retraction are controlled by a handwheel-driven crank mechanism, providing convenient transition between mobile and stationary operation.

An integrated air-check safety system provides an additional level of protection against uncontrolled vertical movement of the instrument column. The mechanism is designed to prevent a sudden column drop if the operator releases the collar locking device and primary handle while the ratchet pawl is disengaged.
