ITEM'S DESCRIPTION
The stylus is an essential component of the measuring system. During measurement, it is in direct contact with the workpiece.
Straight styli are the most commonly used in metrology. Depending on the application, different materials are available for both the shaft and the tip.
Ruby is the most widely used material for stylus tips due to its cost-effective availability while still meeting high quality requirements. Therefore, ruby is used for the majority of applications. It is a very hard material; however, it is not recommended for use with certain materials such as aluminum, as it tends to promote the formation of built-up edges.
A shaft made of stainless steel is characterized by its rigidity and is particularly used in applications where weight is of secondary importance.
